Music has been the signature of generations through which musicians today may touch the spirit of any age. Orchestra students enjoy a tremendous advantage with understanding a historical era when they are already experienced with the art of that era.

J. S. Bach composed music of unparalleled organization and structure at the same time Galileo, Kepler and Newton were explaining the structures of the universe; Dimitri Shostakovich effectively portrayed the suffering, perseverance and hope of Russians under Stalin's dictatorship; Claude Debussy crafted works of music that gave sound to the impressionistic art of his era.

For just about any culture through time there is a story told through the inimitable narration of its music. By taking part in orchestra, students take an active part in experiencing history.
